Suggested activities in the surroundings

Radda in Chianti is located in an incredibly diverse environment that offers hystorical sites,  beautiful country side, tracking and bycicling paths, and delicous food.

Nearby there are the two medival towns of Gaiole and Castellina, with Radda in Chianti members  of the "Lega del Chianti", established in 1384.  

The Chianti countryside offers endless possibilities for outdoor activities.

There are bike paths everywhere,  the most famous one being the "Eroica".   These paths will take you from one medieval town to the next. Hiking paths provide the opportunities for beautiful walks near wineyards and olive trees. Most hiking and bike paths are "white roads", unpaved roads  with limited car traffic.

Golf clubs are available in the area, the golf club dell’Ugolino near Florence one of the better known.

It is not easy to make a selection of places to visit, here are a few suggestions.

Less than an hour drive:

Siena, Arezzo, Florence and San Gimignano

San Giovanni Valdarno: Annunciation of Beato Angelico

Badia Passignano: Last supper of Domenico Ghirlandaio

Gropina: San Pietro Pieve (800 AD)

Florence: Certosa

Less than two hours drive:

Montalcino, Pisa, Lucca, Volterra

Monterchi: Piero della Francesca, Madonna del Parto

Sansepolcro: Piero della Francesca, Museo Civico

Wine and food

There are endless wineries and eateries in the area. Here we list a few notable place.

Castello di Volpaia: just a few miles away,  the view is breathtaking and the village beautiful.

Badia Coltibuono: an old monastery, has been producing wine and oil for almost a thousand years, it's worth the visit.

Istine:  it offers wine testing and winery visits in a beautiful landscape.

Casa Porciatti: in Radda center, sells local products as well as prepared delicious food. Near the main store there is the Enoteca Porciatti where you can taste local wines.
